Eco-terrorists that are more like plain terrorists. Their actions are heavy on unintended consequences. Things like burning new luxury housing that sends toxic smoke into the air. Releasing 1500 captive minks into the wild to die of starvation, or worse destroy the local ecological balance. Actions range from from extreme crimes, to spiking trees in hopes of injuring loggers, or simply protesting. Usually they are the ones that start the violence. After all what good is a protest if you don't trash a Starbucks? Mind you they instigate and get out of there. They don't want to be caught. Allergic to handcuffs it seems.
Gnome claims non-violence in their actions, a claim hotly disputed by those that understand what aggression and violence are. While they claim concern for the environment, their actions are taken against moneyed interests. Large homes, fur use, and SUV sales being major concerns.It has been noted that they will protest fur, but won't bother bikers over all the leather they wear. Note" This was actually challenged. It ended with crying protesters and allegedly one of them duct taped to a tree.
GNOME has threatened to damage fusion plants. Krellite cells and fusion have got them shitting bricks, with spikes on them. It is new-cle-ar power after all, that has to make it bad. To date none have been damaged. Intelligence believes they have yet to find a way to damage the plants without either killing themselves or causing deaths. Project Sun has challenged them to "prove the harm" where fusion is concerned. The challenge remains unanswered.
The GNOME area of operation is world wide. The group started in the United Kingdom and has spread to 17 nations, according to GNOME itself. Actions in the United States are concentrated in the western part of the country. They claim wide support; that is farce on the face of it. Groups with wide support do not engage in terrorist acts. They do not need to, they have wide support.
The group is a decentralized and leaderless cell organization with various "affinity groups" acting on their own accord and being self funded.
They are considered a criminal organization and several members have been prosecuted for criminal actions. The USA Department of Justice has yet to nail a RICO conviction on the organization at large. Its decentralized nature making conspiracy hard to prove.
There is known cross over with groups like DoME, PETM, and Gaia's Cradle.
